The construction of China's first deep sea multi-functional research and archaeological vessel started

news-details

The construction of China's first deep sea multi-functional research and archaeological vessel began in CSSC on June 25. The vessel will become an open and shared maritime platform for multi-system integration, multi-discipline intersection, collaborative innovation.

The vessel can bidirectionally break ice from bow and stern with ice strengthening level of PC4. It can conduct deep-sea research and archaeology, and perform polar sea area explorations in summer. It is expected to be completed and delivered for offshore operations by 2025.

The ship was funded by the People's Government of Hainan Province, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Development and Construction Co., Ltd., the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, and the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is a new type of multi-functional scientific research ship that can conduct deep-sea scientific investigations and cultural relics archaeology, and can conduct polar sea area investigations in summer.

In the future, the ship will become an open and shared offshore platform with multi-system integration, multi-disciplinary interdisciplinary and collaborative action innovation in my country. It is of great significance to improve my country's deep-sea archaeological operation capabilities and realize global access to the global deep sea. It is expected to be completed and delivered in 2025, and put into offshore operation.

The designed ship has a length of about 103 meters, a designed draft and displacement of about 9,200 tons, a maximum speed of 16 knots, an endurance of 15,000 nautical miles, and a crew of 80 people.

Independently designed ships + domestic scientific research equipment.

Designed and built by GSI, the ship has iconic functions such as navigation in unrestricted waters, manned deep diving, deep-sea exploration, comprehensive operation support, and heavy safety loads. The required samples and environmental data provide relevant discipline guidance and underwater operation support for deep-sea archaeology, and at the same time support the sea test and application of deep-sea core technology and equipment.

The ship system has completely independent intellectual property rights.

Focus on breaking through the monopoly bottlenecks in many key technologies such as the overall design technology of ships in the polar region, intelligent control technology, low temperature precision compensation technology, integrated design of ice load and heavy-duty structures in the polar region.

The research and development and function expansion of scientific research equipment take localization as the core goal.

Explore and realize the application of domestic scientific research equipment in polar regions, and its optimal matching with self-designed ships. The construction content includes ship system, manned deep water surface support system and integrated operation system.

Guangzhou Shipbuilding International has rich experience in the construction of scientific research ships and polar icebreakers. It has successively delivered iconic research ship products such as "Explorer No. 1", "Jiageng" and "Sun Yat-sen University Polar". It has repeatedly made great achievements in the fields of transport ships, polar condensate tankers, and ice-strengthened transport ships. It is currently the shipbuilding enterprise that has built and delivered the most ships in polar ice areas in China.
